Update – 19 March 2024 - We have achieved a VICTORY in Chelsea!
Greg is delighted to announce that our campaign to keep Chelsea moving has been successful.
Transport for London (TfL) will now deliver the safety scheme at Battersea Bridge, which Greg has long supported. But without the huge road capacity reductions on Chelsea Embankment.
TfL’s bus lane proposal has been heavily scaled back. This is great news locally!
As residents will know, Greg launched a campaign and petition (below) to keep Chelsea moving and free from any more traffic congestion. A staggering 1,919 residents signed his petition!
TfL have listened to local voices.
Huge thank you to every single Chelsea & Fulham resident who took the time to add their signature – the combined effort made a huge impact!
As soon as Greg has more precise and finalised details of TfL’s plans, Greg will pass them on to residents.
Thank you for all your support!
ENDS
Transport for London (TfL) have proposed to install westbound and eastbound bus lanes on Chelsea Embankment. This would halve capacity on the Embankment and be disastrous for traffic congestion.
As residents will know, Greg has always been very supportive of our local bus routes. However, these bus lanes are seemingly unnecessary. There is very little need for the bus lanes, given that the single-decker 170 bus is the only route on that stretch of road, and, thanks to TfL’s cuts last year, it now runs even less frequently – it was reduced from every 7 minutes to every 10 minutes.
TfL’s proposal would significantly add to traffic congestion on the Embankment, worsening air quality while making little appreciable difference to the speed of bus travel. It would also force lorries, vans, heavy goods vehicles, and other vehicles to seek alternative routes through Chelsea.
Traffic in Chelsea is already being negatively impacted by the Labour-run London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham’s SW6 Traffic Schemes and halving the capacity of Chelsea Embankment would only add to this.
Greg wants to keep Chelsea moving and free from any more traffic congestion. TfL must think again!
Sign Greg’s petition, if you agree that it’s time to stop any more traffic congestion in Chelsea.
